The vision of Australia’s first and only saint…
Sister Brigette Sipa is the Director of Mission at Mary McKillop Place, Sydney, Australia where St Mary MacKillop lived, served and died.
Born in the mid nineteenth century Mary MacKillop trained as a school teacher and was inspired by both her desire for a religious life as well as the needs of the poor bush children of Penola. In 1866, age 24 she founded The Sisters of St Joseph of The Sacred Heart with Father Julian Tenison Woods. The 850 strong Josephite community are to this day, dedicated to Mary’s vision of poverty, providence & education.
